With the country’s fourth smallest city, Ripon, the sophistication of Harrogate, the Yorkshire Dales and the Yorkshire Moors all within easy reach, the Crown Inn at Grewelthorpe is an ideal place for the tourist to stop over and digest the experience of some real North Yorkshire life. Mixing with locals in the Crown Inn in front of the log burning fire, enjoying a selection of four real ales and homemade cooking at its best, time then for just a stroll round the village duck pond before retiring for the night in one of the Crown’s comfortable en-suite rooms. What could be more authentically enjoyable than that!
The approach to the Crown Inn is impressive too as the motorist drives through the stone archway and into the extensive car park. On entering the Crown itself prepare to be impressed by the walls and bar clad in local stone and the substantial dark wood furniture throughout the well stocked bar and dining areas. Stacks of largelogs are here to feed the wood burner and the open fire and the chalked menu on the board highlights such popular delicacies as Drunken Rump!
Food is served every lunchtime apart from Monday and every evening. Utilising locally sourced produce where possible menus are imaginative and cater for varying tastes including vegetarian. The increasingly popular Sunday roast lunch is served well into the evening to accommodate demand and the bar itself serves four real ales at any one time.
The tourist is advised to book in advance to stay in one of the Crown Inn’s en-suite guest bedrooms. Comfortably furnished with colour television and beverage making facilities, these rooms are centrally heated.
